Hey, I’m Carla.

Why Carla the Fog? Named after “Karl the Fog”, San Francisco’s fog that cloaks the city nearly every day.

HI. I’m Carla, a San Francisco native born and raised in the Mission District. My parents are from Mexico City, and I live in Oakland with my husband, Chris.

Having grown up in San Francisco, I got into its restaurant, music, and arts scene at a very young age and became obsessed with making lists and itineraries with all of my favorite spots to share with friends. I loved doing research and reading reviews to make sure I was going to have the best experience and not waste my money.

When I met my now-husband five years ago, I discovered that he loved traveling as much as I do. Living + working in the city and in Oakland can be draining (BART itself is exhausting), so we made a point to travel all over Northern California every weekend that we could. When COVID-19 hit, it drastically changed the travel industry and forced us to cancel trips we were really looking forward to (Hawaii + Mexico City will have to wait). Now is a perfect time to explore all the nature that surrounds us. We’re really lucky to be surrounded by so much nature and beauty in every. single. direction. Not many people have that advantage.

Since then, we’ve traveled all over Northern California, and I’ve written dozens of itineraries for friends who want to know where to go around the Bay Area. Now, I get asked for itineraries all the time. They’re filled with my favorite hiking trails, beaches, accommodations, and restaurants that won’t break the bank.

In short, these weekend trips have kept me sane while living in Oakland + San Francisco. They allow me to reflect, meditate, connect to nature, connect with my boo, feel safe, feel present, and most importantly, have fun. I hope you can follow along and explore Northern California :)
